Aisa sadak wahan banaya to sarkar tekedaar ka sar kalam kar dega !!
The rains have started and the roads have shown their true colours (or rather texture and discontinuity) again. The BMC promises each time that the road will last a lifetime and each time they screw up leaving momentos for the season. A small set of problems for an already screwed up administration. The ever busy Amar Mahal Junction always recieves a patchwork which can be compared to a plastic surgeon working on a warfront.... a 10 ft wide road (not to forget the road ain't wide enough) marred by 6 ft potholes.... what a sight !!It is not a problem of technology... its a problem of non-performance fines that dont work. The same contractors are known to take up road contracts elsewhere, namely UAE, Qatar, Oman where the road is like.... wow ... :).... when it comes to working on domestic contracts, they decide that each journey must be a pilgrimage full of pain, suffering and a broken back. It is the scare of stiff fines and unbearable punishment that will bring out the best performance from these such people. Till then the tax-payer will continue to feed the snake and get bitten in return. All this reminds me of a dialogue my driving instructor (who just returned after a brief stint as a chauffeur from Saudi Arabia) said a long time back... "Aisa sadak wahan banayega to sarkar tekedaar ka sar kalam kar dega"... roughly transalated as "If such roads are made there (Saudi Arabia), the government will behead the contractor"
